Sleep disorders

At HSR Psychology, we provide a number of various psychological interventions to support children and young people who have sleep disorders.

What are sleep disorders?

Sleep disorders can include a range of difficulties, including having too much or too little sleep. Sleep disorders can vary in how much they affect the life of a child or young person. A sleep disorder is usually identified by a doctor, once the sleep difficulties begin to impact the life of an individual, for example if their mental health or relationships are being affected

Everyone will experience poor sleep at some point in their life, but it is only when the problem has been ongoing and is problematic that it will require intervention.

There are numerous different types of sleep disorders, including:

Our process

At HSR Psychology we ensure that we meet the needs of children and young people. To achieve this we ensure that any specific assessments, intervention, or direct work, is only carried out following an initial discussion.

Our process for any specific assessments, intervention, or direct work is as follows:

Step 1: Contact us

We will usually be contacted by the child or young person, parent or carer, or another professional (eg education or health).

You can contact us or complete a referral

Step 2: Arrange an initial discussion

How do we assess sleep disorders?

Assessing for sleep disorders can include several components, such as:

Clinical interview

This interview is used to determine the impact that sleep difficulties could be having on the individual’s life.

Sleep journal

Sometimes individuals keep a journal of their sleeping patterns, if this is the case then it can be of use to look into the development of the individual’s needs. If a sleep journal has not been started, then one can be started.

Questionnaires

Some questionnaires may be used to assess the quality, timing and amount of sleep that an individual is receiving. Questionnaires can also look at the impact sleep difficulties may be having on the individual.

What interventions can we provide for an individual with a sleep disorder?

At HSR Psychology we provide the following interventions for sleep disorders:

We are able to offer some therapeutic interventions for young adults and children who have a prescription for medication that helps their sleep disorders. Our interventions include advice and guidance around sleep hygiene.

Arrange an Initial Discussion

There is no average cost for an assessment for needs related to a stroke as there are so many possibilities for an assessment. Following an Initial Discussion, we will be able to provide a quotation and a recommendation summary which includes a plan for our input.
