What types of group work do we provide?

We provide a broad range of groups for your college to support emotional wellbeing, mental health and academic progress. Our psychologists can identify areas of need within groups through reviewing results from screenings and data. Groups will be designed based on the needs of your students, and can support more than one area of need. We can provide many groups, including:

  • Resilience building
  • Identity
  • LGBT
  • Dyslexia support
  • Dyscalculia support
  • Dyspraxia support
  • Life skills
  • Dealing with difficult emotions
  • Coping with stress
  • Emotional wellbeing

The groups above are suggestions of what we can carry out within your college. If you have a specific need for a group which would require a psychologist’s input then please contact us now to talk to a member of our team.

Who is suitable for group work?

Typically, students who take part in group work have low to medium level needs, although this changes in post-16 settings. Anyone is suitable for group work if their inclusion in the group would have a positive influence on both themselves and other members of the group.

Who carries out group work?

Our team of psychologists all carry out group work according to their specialism. We provide the right psychologist for the subject matter. Our assistant psychologists provide group work to support our cost effective psychology service.

What happens during group work?

Group work will be slightly different depending on its purpose and members. Students will be encouraged to talk about any issues that are bothering them, and difficulties can be explored and worked through during group work. Mental strategies and techniques will be introduced and implemented to support students.

What happens after group work?

After group work there will be a review to evaluate our input and the effectiveness of the group. Group members may be changed following a review or changing needs. If group work identifies a previously unknown need within a student we may recommend referral, an assessment or further interventions.

Group work is an efficient way of providing multiple students with targeted and focussed work for their needs in a supportive environment. Students who have their needs met will be able to focus on their studies and reach their potential.
