Resiliency assessments

Resilience is the capacity to cope with and recover quickly from challenges or difficulties in life. Our assessments measure the levels of resilience an individual has with a view to helping children and young people develop their levels of resilience.

Who is suitable for a resiliency assessment?

All children and young people are suitable for a resiliency assessment as it is useful to know how individuals are likely to react when put in a difficult situation. Everyone faces challenges and difficult times within their life and we have varying levels of resilience. An individual who is likely to experience challenges, both positive and negative, would be suitable for a resiliency assessment as it provides information about their coping ability.

What are the benefits of a resiliency assessment?

The benefits of having a resiliency assessment lie in being able to predict how a child or young person may react to a challenging situation and provide appropriate support. This is particularly important during stressful educational times, such as exam periods or transitions. Understanding how to build a child or young person’s resilience prior to an upcoming challenge is beneficial as it means that appropriate measures can be put in place to build resilience for the future.

What happens prior to a resiliency assessment?

A resiliency assessment can be carried out following an initial discussion, please see our process below.

Our process

At HSR Psychology we ensure that we meet the needs of children and young people. To achieve this we ensure that any specific assessments, intervention, or direct work, is only carried out following an initial discussion.

What happens during a resiliency assessment?

A resiliency assessment usually includes looking at previous experiences and hypothetical scenarios along with questionnaires. If adaptations need to be made for a more accessible assessment then we will make it age appropriate.

Which assessments do we use?

The main resiliency assessment we use is:

  • Resiliency scales for children and adolescents which can be used with children and young people aged 9-18 and measures; optimism, self-efficacy, adaptivity, trust, support, comfort, tolerance, sensitivity, recovery, impairment

We will provide more information about the assessment during the initial discussion as there are various ways to assess a child or young person’s resiliency, such as observations and discussions.

What happens after a resiliency assessment?

After a resiliency assessment we will be able to make recommendations to support individuals during challenging times. Interventions and strategies will help children and young people to become happy, safe and ready for life’s challenges.

Does a resiliency assessment come with a report?

A resiliency assessment comes with the option of receiving a report outlining the results, or containing written recommendations. Read more about the reports we offer.

A resiliency assessment increases understanding as to how a child or young person may react to a challenging event or setback. To find out more, or to book an initial discussion, please contact us.
